Debra is a passionate disability rights advocate who believes that everyone has the right to live with dignity, autonomy, and independence in the community.

Debra’s career has been dedicated to working with people living with a disability in various settings, including peak bodies, tertiary education, government, and not-for-profit sectors.

Debra began her career as a Project Officer for the Paraplegic and Quadriplegic Association of South Australia, and HACC Consumer Support Project with Disabled Peoples’ International (SA). She then transitioned to working as Regional Disability Liaison Officer at the University of South Australia before taking on senior and management roles for APN Options Coordination. After retiring, Debra continued to support people living with a disability as a phone support volunteer.

Debra has been an Enhanced Lifestyles customer since 2006. Prior to her appointment as Chairperson in 2019, Debra has served on the Enhanced Lifestyles Board since 2014 as a Committee Member, Secretary, and Vice Chairperson. Debra’s introduction to governance was by ministerial appointment to the Disability Advisory Committee, where she chaired the Consumer Subcommittee and then the Disability Advisory Committee for three years. Debra has used her comprehensive skillset and governance knowledge to benefit Enhanced Lifestyles and the broader disability community.

Debra is proud to be leading a unique member-led organisation that promotes people with lived disability experience to drive change and ensure customers’ voices are always heard.

Debra has a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from the South Australian College of Advanced Education, and a Bachelor of Social Administration from Flinders University.
