Announced in 2021, Psychosocial Recovery Coaching is a support available under the NDIS. If you are living with a psychosocial disability or mental health condition, you may be able to include a Psychosocial Recovery Coach in your plan.
About Psychosocial Recovery Coaches
Psychosocial Recovery Coaches are similar to Support Coordinators (discover the difference here), but they have specialised qualifications and expertise within the mental health space. Oftentimes, the Psychosocial Recovery Coach will actually have lived experience of recovering from mental illness or a psychosocial disability themselves, so they understand how best to support your recovery journey.
What supports do Psychosocial Recovery Coaches provide?
Like all good coaches, a Psychosocial Recovery Coach brings out your best and helps you to thrive.
When you start working with your Psychosocial Recovery Coach, they will work with you, your family, and other support networks to develop a tailored recovery plan based on your unique needs. The plan will provide you with effective strategies to better manage your mental health and help you set and achieve meaningful lifestyle goals, resulting in greater social and economic independence.
Even after your recovery plan has been developed, your Psychosocial Recovery Coach will be in regular contact with you and your support network to make sure you have everything you need.
Your Psychosocial Recovery Coach also helps you to manage your NDIS plan. For example, they can assist you to find and set up other services under the NDIS that will enhance your lifestyle. This could include social support workers, plan managers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, psychologists, house cleaners, and even community groups. It’s all about making sure you are properly supported to live a purposeful and meaningful life.
